Living in Llandaff
Llandaff is a small, historic city to the north of Cardiff’s City Centre. Formerly home to the celebrated children’s author Roald Dahl, the city, with its picturesque village green, crumbling castle ruins and famous 12th century cathedral, has a unique, rural atmosphere.
A lively hub of community life, Llandaff boasts a popular, thriving High Street with several independent shops, restaurants and cafes in addition to activities for all ages at the redeveloped Insole Court, Rugby and Rowing clubs. Check out some of our favourite below!
With a special community feel and excellent links to the hustle and bustle of the big city itself, Llandaff has something for everyone with properties ranging from small retirement apartments to large family homes. As a catchment area for some of the capital’s top-rated state and public schools for both English and Welsh medium learners, Llandaff is, in particular, a highly sought-after area for families and offers plenty for everyone.
Some of our favourite spots in Llandaff...
Firstly, Insole Court. If beautiful buildings and history are your thing, Insole Court will be the place for you. With a 160 year old history, a beautiful mansion to explore and glorious gardens to escape to and ponder around for hours, it’s quite easy to forget you’re in a bustling city when you visit.
Next up, for the foodies, we’ve got the perfect spot for you. The Heathcock is a local dining pub, providing quality seasonal food in a relaxed environment, along with gorgeous rooms to stay. This is a hidden gem if we ever saw one, mixing that classic cosy pub feel with modern decor and first class dining, our Llandaff team are definitely regulars here.
Hailed by our Llandaff team as “The best Indian in South Wales” (and trust us, they’ve tried and tested all the local takeaways!) from the outside, Bay Leaf Restaurant fits in seamlessly with Llandaff’s historic city. It’s everything a stylish Indian eatery should be; sleek and contemporary, with tasteful artwork adding character to the interior. They have 15 years experience, and this is undoubtedly the reason it has become such a hot spot in Llandaff!
When it comes to hairdressers, finding a new one when you move can be scary! But the team at Blush Hair Cardiff are on hand to make you feel right at home when you step into their luxurious salon. You’ll be greeted by an abundance of friendly faces and expert stylists, and you’ll leave feeling like a new person!
If you are a pub lover, then we’re sure The Black Lion will become your new favourite place for a pint or two with an electric atmosphere. Within walking distance of the city centre it’s a popular choice as a meeting place and starting point for fans on match days.
Throughout the rest of the year it enjoys a great reputation as an honest traditional pub with a great range of well-kept ales, beers and traditional ciders.
Is coffee your thing? La Nouba is the place for you! Not only do they serve the best coffee around, their lunches are simply the best and are served by the friendliest of staff! From baguettes to open sandwiches, cakes to die for and fully-loaded jacket potatoes, La Nouba is our #1 lunch spot.
