Pontcanna – Area Guide

Nestled between Cardiff City Centre and Llandaff, Pontcanna is a charming, exclusive suburb renowned for its gorgeous Victorian architecture and tree lined streets. A short distance from the city centre, Pontcanna’s eclectic mix of cultural activities and amenities attracts young professionals, families and retirees.

With Sophia Gardens, the home of Glamorgan Cricket, on your doorstep to a plethora of bistros, bars, coffee shops and restaurants serving exceptional locally sourced produce, there is something for everyone in Pontcanna. This unique area is also home to a strong Welsh speaking community as well as international sports stars, actors and musicians.

Predominantly established as a residential area around the turn of the 20th century, the majority of properties, both residential and commercial, reflect this era with stunning facades and ornate detailing. The vast majority of Pontcanna is protected under a conservation order, ensuring the suburb’s mix of properties including townhouses, mews houses, coach houses, converted and purpose-built apartments retains its unique atmosphere and original character.

Here are our Pontcanna offices’ favourite places...

Our first spot simply has to be Bute Park! It’s always bustling with wildlife, and people looking to escape the city for a short while. With 3 cafe’s, educational trails, and a superb tree collection, it’s the perfect place for family fun!

If you’re a foodie and a fan of fresh produce, Milk and Sugar Cardiff will soon become your new hangout! It’s designed to put everyone’s needs at ease, be it a client meeting, a quick coffee or a place to sit and watch the world pass (Their salad bowls are phenomenal!)

Kind, conscious, and visionary. If these are 3 words that excite you, then Yellow TSE is the perfect shopping experience for you. Zero waste lifestyle is their thing, and their mission is to help responsible retail become the norm! Bagless fruit & veg isles and refill stations are just a small way that this company is making a big impact in Pontcanna!

The Pontcanna Inn boasts 10 beautiful bedrooms, 2 outside areas, a dining area, a weekly pub quiz, and are open 7 days a week. If that isn’t everything you could wish for in a local pub, we don’t know what is! This is the ideal meet up spot with friends in the sunshine, after work drinks with colleagues, or simply a coffees top!

Where do we go for a little treat (perhaps a little too often)? It’s The Danish Bakery! Brod is a little taste of Denmark in the heart of Cardiff, and produces the most delicious baked goods around! They’ve just won Britains best loaf’s highly commended award for their sourdough, and trust us…it’s well deserved!
